The United States unleashed massive firepower against Islamic State targets in Syria, striking 70 locations after the Palmyra attack. The comprehensive military operation demonstrated overwhelming American military power deployed against terrorist infrastructure.

Three Americans lost their lives in a Palmyra attack when an assailant targeted a convoy supporting Operation Inherent Resolve. Two US Army soldiers and a civilian interpreter were killed in the assault, which also wounded three additional service members.
