“Russia Changes Their Mind”: Trump Urges Speed from Kyiv

by admin477351

President Donald Trump has cited the unpredictability of Russian negotiations as a reason for Ukraine to act fast on a peace deal. Trump warned on Thursday that if Ukraine takes too long, Russia might “change their mind.” This advice comes ahead of a meeting in Miami between US and Russian officials.

The weekend talks will feature Trump’s envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, and a Russian delegation. This follows a similar engagement in Berlin with Ukrainian officials. The administration is pushing for a quick resolution to the conflict.

Trump expressed hope that Ukraine would “move quickly,” noting that “Russia is there” and ready to deal. However, he warned that delays often lead to Russia shifting its stance. “Every time they take too much time, then Russia changes their mind,” he said.

The issue of territory remains a major hurdle. Ukraine refuses to cede land, while Russia demands concessions. The gap between the two positions is significant, and bridging it will require difficult compromises.

Russia currently occupies Crimea and parts of four other regions. Moscow demands a Ukrainian withdrawal from the Donbas as a condition for peace. With Russian negotiators showing little flexibility, Trump’s call for speed places significant pressure on Ukraine.
