Rupert Grint is making a highly anticipated return to the world of Harry Potter as he steps back into the shoes of Ron Weasley for the Broadway adaptation of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.” This marks Grint’s return to the character over a decade after the iconic film series concluded. The actor, who was part of the beloved trio alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, will be part of the stage production for a limited 17-week engagement starting in February 2027.
Reflecting on this new chapter, Grint expressed his excitement about revisiting a character that has been a part of his life since he was 11. He noted that portraying Ron as a father at this point in both their lives adds a fresh yet familiar dimension to the role. Grint’s return to the stage follows in the footsteps of his fellow cast member Tom Felton, who recently took on his film role as Draco Malfoy in the same Broadway production. Felton’s run is set to continue through January.
“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” which first debuted in London in 2016, has since expanded to various locations worldwide, becoming a major theatrical sensation. The production has sold over 14 million tickets globally and has amassed more than $532 million from its New York shows alone. The play continues to captivate audiences with its magical narrative and impressive stagecraft.
Grint’s venture into Broadway is not his first; he made his debut in 2014 with the comedy “It’s Only a Play.” Since his days at Hogwarts, Grint has diversified his acting repertoire with roles in films such as “Knock at the Cabin,” “Charlie Countryman,” and “Nightborn.” Meanwhile, the Harry Potter universe continues to expand, with a new television series currently in development for HBO, aiming to introduce the wizarding saga to new audiences.
