In a move to bolster diplomatic ties and enhance strategic cooperation, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Mongolian Prime Minister Nyam-Osor Uchral have committed to deepening their countries’ bilateral relations. The leaders convened in Tokyo, where they deliberated on ways to advance economic development and promote infrastructure collaboration between Japan and Mongolia.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Takaichi expressed appreciation for Mongolia’s support of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific, underscoring Japan’s eagerness to cultivate more robust cooperation with Mongolia. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Uchral highlighted the significance of strengthening ties with Japan as a focal point of Mongolia’s foreign policy, reiterating his nation’s dedication to this partnership.

A notable outcome of the meeting was the endorsement of an agreement concerning Japan’s assistance in the expansion of Chinggis Khaan International Airport. This project aims to enhance Mongolia’s international connectivity and signifies ongoing infrastructure cooperation between the two nations.

Japan and Mongolia have progressively expanded their relationship over recent years. In 2022, the two countries elevated their ties to a “special strategic partnership for peace and prosperity,” reflecting a mutual commitment to a closer alliance.
