In a significant diplomatic meeting held in Hanoi, officials from Vietnam and Japan emphasized their dedication to bolstering ties between their respective ruling parties and legislative bodies. The discussions were led by Nguyễn Duy Ngọc, a senior official from the Communist Party of Vietnam, and Hagiuda Koichi, Executive Acting Secretary-General of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
During the talks, both parties praised the ongoing expansion of the Vietnam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. They concurred on the importance of enhancing political dialogue and exchanges between their parliaments, building on the momentum from Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s recent visit to Vietnam earlier in the year.
Nguyễn Duy Ngọc underscored Vietnam’s robust economic achievements and the continuous progress in administrative reforms. He proposed that Japan could play a crucial role in sharing its expertise on local governance and decentralization, which would aid Vietnam in its institutional development. Furthermore, he advocated for increased collaboration in various sectors, including human resource development, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, green transition, economic security, and quantum technology.
The Vietnamese delegation also highlighted the need for stronger connections between the two countries’ parliamentary friendship groups and encouraged more exchanges involving young lawmakers. Moreover, they requested ongoing support for the Vietnamese community residing in Japan and suggested simplifying visa procedures, with the ultimate aim of achieving visa-free travel for Vietnamese citizens in the future.
Hagiuda Koichi reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation. He expressed that Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party and its parliament remain dedicated to fostering exchanges and joint initiatives, particularly in the realms of advanced technologies, digital innovation, and green energy. This meeting marks a continued effort by both nations to deepen their strategic partnership and collaborative efforts in various fields.
